About Kelleys Island Brewery

I have been calling Kelleys Island home for 35 years. As a summer resident and a person "brought up" in a family business on the island I have had the privilege of meeting thousands of people from all walks of life. Feeding them and answering their questions has been my pleasure since I could reach my first ice cream counter.

Our business has changed since the days when I was serving ice cream and renting bicycles to visitors. The Kelleys Island Brewery has evolved from an ice cream stand to a restaurant/microbrewery and catering business. The restaurant makes the most of what we know about making island visitors welcome and comfortable. Our Catering/Events Planning services enable customers to create special events in special places around the island. The Microbrewery enables us to bottle a bit of Kelleys Island magic and offer it to beer lovers both on and off the island.

Kelleys Island is a unique place. Its history is as diverse as the people who visit daily, spend a week at one of its charming bed and breakfasts, or come to work for a summer and decide to call it home. Our goal is to spread the magic!

The Microbrewery

Pubs (from "public houses") have a long and colorful history. Before the rise of large-scale beer manufacturers, people got their beers from local makers. A good beer was cherished and the brewmaster was well-respected for his skill. We liked the idea of having a pub with it's own beer on Kelleys Island. We thought the brews we made could be expressive of the Island's inherent magic. So we started down the road of learning the craft and conceptualizing our brews.

Our Brewmaster Doug exceeded all our expectations. His range of brews are rich, flavorful, smooth and distinctive. So good are they that we're now selling them off-island and attracting fans who've never been to Kelleys. (Our Kelleys Gold won Best Wheat Beer at Brew Week 2006 in Athens, OH!)

We're very excited about our brews and their growing popularity.
